Mournwright's Concordance

aka the field notes, Taras's rubbings

Taras Mournwright's three trunks of rubbings, sketches, and architectural notes on Caer Vallen — a complete exterior map of the hall he has never entered, which is either the most thorough document of a living building in the world or a suicide note written in architectural notation.

The Concordance maps every visible column face, every conduit socket, every lintel inscription he could reach with a ladder. It stops at the threshold — the inside is blank. The Far College would pay a great deal for it; the Hollow Writ would pay more, for different reasons; Taras will not sell it while he still believes he can fill in the blank pages himself.

  • Caer VallenThe Concordance is a complete exterior map of Caer Vallen — every column face, conduit socket, and threshold inscription Taras could reach with a ladder.
  • The SunderingThe Concordance documents the physical evidence of the Sundering in Caer Vallen's stone — the cracks, the fused joints, the asymmetric conduit damage — as architectural notation.
  • The Hollow WritThe Hollow Writ wants the Concordance for the same reason they want the Sundered Crown — a complete map of Caer Vallen is a map to what the Imperium's governor owned.
