The Wrights' Heirs — The Resonants

THE POWERS · THE VALE

The Wrights' Heirs

aka The Resonants

The ambitious inner ring above the Far College — arcanists who believe they are the rightful heirs to the Wright's own dead craft, and mean to wield recovered Imperium arcana and old relics for real power, advantage, and the wealth that buying it brings.

The Vale's most dangerous arcane operators. Where the College trades in lessons, the Heirs trade in leverage: they hoard the workable Imperium arcana, corner the salvage that other diggers can't make sense of, and turn what they recover into power over the people who need it. Their name is the claim — Vallen is dead and his craft ownerless, and they mean to be the ones who actually reclaim it, whatever the Ashen priests say about a dead god's mysteries staying buried. Old Work bronze and old relics pass through their reading-halls constantly — but to a Wright's Heir a relic is a tool worth wielding and a commodity worth a fortune, dug up, priced, and either kept for the edge it gives or sold to the highest bidder. They cultivate patrons, undercut rivals, and lean on anyone who fears what they've learned to do. Knowledge, to them, is just the surest road to coin and command.

  • The SunderingThe Resonants would read the Sundering's note, not silence it.
  • The Wright's ShardThe loudest instrument anyone ever left lying around — the Resonants mean to play it.
  • Imperator's WordThe cleanest crystallized human will ever found; the Resonants would take the Vale apart to study the note in it.
  • Holy ThunderforceThe Resonants would give a wing of Caer Vallen to study the note set into the blade — the cleanest surviving sample of a god's voice in steel.
  • StarfireThe Resonants would unmake a city to learn how the mote of uncooled Aether was caught at the head of the staff.
  • Old WorkThe Resonants mean to wield recovered Imperium arcana and old relics for real advantage.
  • quest.the-unhushing (unresolved)Ring-it feeds the Resonants the knowing they covet.
  • Ashfall TownThe Resonants send quiet agents to Ashfall to buy Imperium bronze and any salvaged Old Work engine the scavengers pull from the waste — the Emberwaste is a graveyard of the old empire's craft, and they want every piece before the Ledger fences it.
  • quest.what-the-mesa-keeps (unresolved)The Resonants are one of the two factions vying for vault access.
  • The Vael PillarThe Resonants would prize the Vael Pillar as a working Imperium power-source, exactly the kind of lost craft they study and want to wield again.
  • The Marrowfold Grave TokenThe Resonants would recognise the Marrowfold Grave Token as pre-Vandahl echo-material — proof that concept.the-long-ring predates the house, which interests them enormously.
  • The Hollow KeyThe Resonants have offered Veya the Tinner money for the Hollow Key — the key to the Shut Reliquary is the College's fastest route onto the Spur.
  • quest.the-castle-under-the-castle (unresolved)The Resonants are the primary interested party for the Shut Reliquary — the quest branches include giving them access to the vault.
  • Imperator's WordThe cleanest crystallized echo of a single human will ever found — the Resonants would pay the Vale itself to take it apart and learn how.

enemy_of

  • The Sealed ChoirWield versus seal — the Vale's sharpest quarrel; the Choir calls them madmen with matches.

rival_of

  • The Mourners of the HushWield versus fade: one would hold the echo, the other sing it to rest.
  • The Hollow WritOrder distrusts reckless wielders; the Writ would license the relic, the Resonants would simply use it.
  • The Gaunt LedgerAcross every region the two powers chase the same scattered Imperium bronze and Old Work workings — the Resonants to wield them whole, the Ledger to break and fence them. A buying war that runs from the Driftmarket piers to the Ashfall ash-fields.
  • The Gaunt LedgerThe Resonants are the Ledger's richest customers and its truest opposite: Calder would shatter the Wright's Shard into a hundred honest sales; Galdra's people would keep it whole and wield it. Profit against power, each needing a Vale the other would remake.
  • The Hollow MesaThe Resonants want access to the Hollow Mesa vault's pre-Sundering tuning — and the Bonesung stand in the way.
